When is an extracted invoice value actually verified?
Most extraction tools give each value a confidence score: 0.92 for the total, 0.71 for the date. A score like that doesn’t tell you what to do. Is 0.71 good enough to book? Unfela doesn’t use percentages. Every field has one of three states, and each state tells you what to do next.
The three states

The checks behind Verified
A value has to be in the right place and has to make sense. Depending on the field, Unfela checks:
- IBAN checksums. A mistyped or misread digit fails the checksum.
- Tax IDs. A tax ID has to pass its check, not only look like one.
- Totals that add up. Subtotal plus tax must equal the total, for example 130.47 + 11.09 = 141.56.
- Dates that can’t be swapped. Is 05/06/2026 the 5th of June or the 6th of May? If both readings are possible and nothing in the document settles it, the date goes to review.
Why a value lands in Needs Review
Unfela always gives the reason. Common ones:
- The value is found, but not next to a label, so it’s unclear what it is.
- Two different amounts could be the total.
- The date format is ambiguous.
- On-device AI proposed a value that can’t be found in the document text.
When the value is wrong, select the right text in the document and that text becomes the value. Where you selected it is saved as the proof.
The number we care about most
On our benchmark of 100 sample documents, Unfela got 97.6% of fields right. The number we watch most closely is a different one: how many fields were wrong but marked Verified. That number is 0, both with and without on-device AI. A tool that is sometimes unsure is fine. A tool that is wrong and says it’s sure puts errors into your books without anyone noticing.
Questions
Does Unfela show confidence percentages?
No. Every field is Verified, Needs Review or Missing. A percentage cannot tell you whether to use a value; a state with a reason can.
Can an AI proposal be marked Verified?
Only if the proposed value is found in the document. An AI proposal that cannot be found in the text goes to Needs Review.
What happens to unconfirmed amounts in the month package?
They are listed, never summed. Totals per currency include only confirmed amounts.
